HFAC presents Love & Marriage Texas Style

Posted in Member Pages on May 8, 2010 by nwhaa

Love & Marriage Texas Style is a new comedy very loosely based on “Billy Bob” Shakespeare’s The Taming of the Shrew, and is set in Tomball in 1910. This new look at that age-old love-struggle has more twists and turns than a trail left by a maverick steer that’s been munching loco weed…and is spoken in good ol’ Texanese palaver! (Where else will you hear such endearments as “She’s as purty a sight as a Jersey heifer in a field o’ bluebonnets!”?)

This world premiere, written and directed by local Houston playwright Elaine Edstrom, opens Friday, May 7 and runs weekends through Saturday, May 29. Love & Marriage Texas Style will be the inaugural show for the new Houston Family Arts Center (HFAC) Garza Mainstage – a 151 seat state of the art theatre located at 10760 Grant Road, Houston TX 77070.

Tickets are just $16 for adults, $14 for seniors, and $12 for students/children. Special discounts are available for groups of 10 or more. Purchase tickets online at www.houstonfac.com. For more info or group ticket sales, call 281-685-6374.

Make plans to see West Side Story, the award-winning adaptation of Shakespeare’s classic romantic tragedy Romeo and Juliet. Performances at Houston Family Arts Center Garza Mainstage 10760 Grant Road, June 25 – July 11, 2010.

The Texas Repertory Theatre Co., NW Houston’s critically-acclaimed professional theatre, closes its 2009-2010 Season with the classic farce comedy A Flea in Her Ear, May 6th thru May 23rd. Written by the master of French farce, Georges Feydeau, the play is a sexy, comedic tour-de-force that could easily be mistaken for a modern day Viagra commercial on fast-forward!

Played with breathtaking speed, A Flea in Her Ear is a witty series of misunderstandings, clandestine assignations, and misplaced jealousies that culminate in an evening of unparalleled fun! From drop-dead satire to deadpan farce, this may be the funniest play of all time, produced with the sparkling performances and outstanding production values that audiences have come to expect from “Houston’s Uptown Classic Theatre”.
